Green Your Existing School
With more than 133,000 schools in the U.S., the greatest opportunity for school districts and our nation is to transform our existing schools. The greening of existing schools presents a unique challenge for schools and school districts.
LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance (LEED EB: O&M) was designed by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) to evaluate the sustainability of ongoing operations of existing buildings. LEED EB: O&M provides owners and operators of existing buildings an entry point into the LEED certification process. Like LEED for Schools, LEED EB: O&M provides parents, teachers and the community with a “report card” for their school buildings – verifying that the school is achieving its highest level of performance and that operations and maintenance policies are being held to a green standard. Students will learn better, teachers will be more satisfied, and the schools will run more efficiently.
